Using its Live Extreme Encoder, KORG will stream a live concert in AURO-3D 9.1 Immersive Audio and full 1080p high-resolution video on Feb. 28, 2024.

Tokyo, Japan. (February 20, 2024) – KORG, Inc.—creator of innovative and uncompromising instruments that inspire professional artists and creators—will stream a live concert from Japan to Los Angeles in a revolutionary streaming demo for the press and other key partners at 6 PM PST on February 28, 2024, at Deluxe Hollywood, Stage 5, 900 Seward Street in Los Angeles.

The first-of-its-kind demonstration will show how a live concert can be streamed with uncompressed audio and full 1080p video resolution via a complete end-to-end streaming ecosystem that includes KORG, AURO-3D, and the Artist Connection streaming platform.

The Performance

Organized by KORG with support from media company and TV broadcaster WOWOW, distributor Syntax Japan, and Genelec Japan, the concert will be held at the Hall of Halls, Kiyosato Moeginomura Museum (Yamanashi, Japan). This live one-hour performance called, “The Sound of the Previous Century Into the Future” will feature a marimba performance by Tatsushi Omori and Yoko Kamihara, performed with and accompanied by the early 20th century instruments such as the Chickering Ampico Grand Player Piano (the last unit in the world still maintained and playable) and the “Limonaire 1900” organ (from the Paris World Exposition in 1900).

The Technology Behind the Stream

The demonstration centers around KORG’s Live Extreme. This no-compromise encoding technology eliminates the need for compression and workarounds to deliver a bit-for-bit experience of any audio/video source, allowing audiences to hear every nuance of a performance. Live Extreme will use AURO-3D’s Auro-Codec real-time encoder to stream multi-channel 24bit/96kHz AURO-3D immersive audio, allowing for unprecedented streaming audio quality. Lossless audio will be paired with high-definition, H.264 1080p 15 Mbps streaming video for a stunning image at the Los Angeles Deluxe Hollywood live viewing location. 

The concert will also be streamed free to the public on the Artist Connection platform, which is the only streaming platform that delivers premium streams that marry immersive audio and high-res video. Artist Connection has native support for both the KORG Live Extreme Encoder and a built-in AURO-3D decoder. Public access will be limited to the first 100 viewers who register. Gooik, (BE) (December 14, 2023) – AURO-3D® will showcase AURO-CX, the first and only truly scalable Next Generation Audio codec, during CES 2024, January 9–12, at The Venetian Hotel.

The AURO-CX Codec, designed for streaming but with applications in broadcast, has many advantages over existing Next Generation Audio codecs that make it desirable to the universe of content creators, content distributors, streaming services, and audio manufacturers. All these advantages are rooted in the codec’s inherent scalability, which means less storage space and fewer encoding passes, both of which save considerable time, manpower, and costs.

Perhaps most notable is that AURO-CX enables scalable quality, meaning a variety of resolutions—from lossless to transparent to lossy—are included within a single bitstream thanks to multiple audio waveform coding techniques. Similarly, AURO-CX has scalable sample rates that allow a single bitstream to carry 48, 96, and 192kHz, giving the decoder the option to extract only what it needs from a single encode, depending on its capabilities.

“Thanks to AURO-CX’s scalable quality, content distributors have the flexibility to address multiple audiences using the same stream. AURO-CX also has the flexibility to transmit objects embedded in the same bitstream for immersive audio. “Other formats have to extract objects from 7.1, resulting in a big reduction in audio quality, especially for the height channels in an immersive audio setup,” says Van Daele. “AURO does it differently. We embed objects in 13.1 immersive so that the user’s 7.1 experience is more 3D due to higher-quality height information, allowing the mix to stay true to the artist’s intent and deliver to the end user what was heard in the studio.”

In addition, AURO-CX supports a wide range of flexible broadcast features such as dialogue enhancement and localized audio for multiple languages. It also enables interactive and assistive audio, where the quality of the immersive experience can be set higher than the additional audio tracks, guaranteeing the best immersive experience while providing better access to all.

A fully integrated solution is now available that includes the newest Auro-Scene speaker virtualization technology. It enables device manufacturers to build advanced soundbar systems ranging from stereo to 7.1.4, including support for configurable satellite speakers.

A 5.1.2 base system can be extended with two satellite speakers adding four channels, either configured as rear surround speakers with up-firing drivers or as front height speakers with two extra side-firing drivers. This provides a unique configuration that allows a customer to put the satellite speakers in the front height position to experience an even higher level of immersivity.
